Good or Bad Idea?
I find this evo 8 with only 22k miles on it; however, the 1st owner uses it as 90% track car. I test drove the car, everything seem to be fine. Do you think it's a good idea to buy it or look for another one?
Thanks

Thats a tough one. I guess you can go by how much the car is selling for, if considerably lower than what book would be on a car with that little of miles then it might be ok because you might be needing that extra saved money to put towards a new motor/turbo/maintenance/etc. You'd almost be hard pressed to find an Evo that wasn't abused pretty hard right from day one because thats why most people will buy them. Either way you go good luck to ya.

I would prefer a track car because you know it's been maintained. I track my car and I've had every piece of suspension off the car, fluids changed all the time. You just have to be up on maintenance to track it whereas you get a lot of kidiots in the Show N Shine who have a fast car and don't know jack.

thanks you guys. He's selling for 18k. I drove the car. It's still good. He has aftermarket fly wheel in it. His 1st gear give out a high pitch whining noise, but that only happens on the 1st gear. Man I like this car, but now I have second thought about.

Mine has always has a pronounced louder noise when driving in first gear especially in parking lots compared with all other gears. It's not really noticeable when you're accelerating or driving normal but any time you drive around in first gear you'll hear it. It just sounds like gear whine. It doesn't do it in second and it doesn't do it in any other gears at higher speed so I don't worry about it.
I've heard from several people on here about a noisy first gear.

Is the car mostly stock still? Or have most of the bits been replaced/upgraded? When I was shopping, there was an 03 with 17,500 for $21k. Track only car with loads of upgrades to the point that it was basically an Evo shell with custom insides. Car ran like it was on it's last legs, and it idled really rough. Maybe it just needed a tune, but I didn't want to take the chance.
On a side note, my first gear is loud as well. I feel like I might wake the neighbors when I come home from work late!

I agree that most tracked cars are actually better maintained than their street driven counterparts. It might be your best bet to bring it to your local tuning shop and have them do a prepurchase inspection for you.

@Bad Company: the car is almost stock now except the suspension. Everything seems to be fine after the second look of the car today.
