evo sounds like a wooden rollercoaster

Hey everyone, I have a 06 evo with almost 95k miles. I'm familiar with the evo clunk and have had it from 20k miles. However, it has gotten a lot worse. It sounds like hitting any small bumps will make it sound like im riding around in a wooden rollercoaster (mostly coming from drivers front corner). Any ideas what it could be? I've looked under the car for anything obvious but it all looked okay for the most part. Thanks for the help

It could be the strut going bad. In my brothers car it made a clunking noise and ended up being the strut. Once it was replaced we never heard it make a noise going over bumps.

95k.. Might want to start thinking about maintenance parts.. struts, control arm bushings, check your tie rod ends also.. but your struts are probably the problem..

^ agreed. The bushings/tie rod ends are an easy inspection to see if they are bad but the strut is kind of a PITA to see if it is bad, unless it looks all wet around the shaft and it hasn't rained in a while..

I agree with the above comments. Start by inspecting the smaller and more easily identifiable parts such as tie rods and bushings. If they seem good then move to the strut to check for issues.

The maintenance manual that came with the car says to replace the struts every 50k.

I had a strut go bad that looked fine visually but clunked over even the smallest little bump. If you have Bilstein struts you can get them rebuilt for about $75 each.

you could try pushing down on top of the strut in the driveway and it might help you figure out if thats the cause of the noise. its like going over bumps in the road except you would be pushing down and letting go and push back down
