Car rolls on cold start

At first i thought it was my mind playing with me. Though now i noticed that on a cold start when i turn the car on, and then release the clutch the car rolls forward a little bit. Its in neutral so i have no clue why it would be doing this, dosent do it when it is warmed up. The colder it is the more it rolls. Ill see if i can get a video of it in the morning before i go to school.

*edit* i have the e-brake up also

if ur car is rolling at all no matter what ur doing while e brake is on you need to adjust your e brake or replace the e brake shoes.

I'll look at the e-brake but i think its fine. i can park the car on a slant and the e-brake will keep it from moving.

i wouldn't worry about the movement you are talking about. Automatics also can have some good movement while started in park when cold. When its cold ur in open loop with a real high idle.

My evo does the same thing, never really thought twice about it. I know I do need to look at my e-brake though.

My Evo does it as well, can't remember if my '03 lancer did it too though.

for small adjustment, you can use 10mm small wrench to adjust the ebrake. you need to remove the center console to do that, which will come out if you remove two screws in the arm rest.

Its your transmission fluid. I'm not a transmission expert so I'm not going to go into much detail but neutral actually is technically a gear and that sucker spinning in such thick fluid causes the car to roll a bit. I probably bastardized the proper explanation but I know my diagnosis is correct.

What fluid are you using?

Sure your clutch isn't grabbing slightly when at idle?

No idea but as soon as i get tranny fluid im going to change it. Got the car like 2 month ago and only had time to change the engine oil last month.

That was the main reason why i made this thread. My idle drops a little when it rolls but i thought it droped because of the cold tranny fluid.

if its in neutral it shouldnt matter about the clutch. Your e-brake like everyone said is most likely the culprit

Ok if I understand the thread correctly, there usually is a certain amount of load that is applied when the car is idle in neutral enough to spin the wheels, ever seen a car up in the air on a lift on a cold start and the wheels start spinning? same process. The colder causes the more spin because the its idle is higher.

Also to properly adjust the parking brake, DON'T tighten the bolt under the console!!! The correct way to do it is to remove the rear wheels, and remove the small rubber plug on the rear rotors (there's a drum brake set up inside) that's access to the parking brake, spin the rotor till you get to the star adjuster, and then adjust till there's minor drag on the wheels! Do this on both sides
