....Mitsubishi reccomends you change the timing belt every 60k....but what about timewise? is there a certain amount of time that can pass that mitsubishi reccomends changing the timing belt? or is it just plain ol' every 60k miles?

The rubber in the timing belt can wear and dry rot over time. I dont think you have to worry so much about that unless you NEVER drive the evo. What year is your evo and how many miles do you have? In one case I would do a timing belt for age vs mileage is if you had a 1980s car w/ 38k miles on it
I think if you have an 03 evo and your at 40k today, I would just wait till your at 60k, imo.

well the car is just my weekend track toy as i have a DD.
i put only about 100 miles a week on it. sometimes less. its in the garage all the time.
my car has 51k miles on it. i wanted to save up for cams so that when i get my timing belt done, i can have cams installed at the same time (since most of the topside will be dissassembled).
so i wanted to put off doing the timing belt as much as i could (so i can save up for cams) but as im doing that, i just dont want the timing belt to age on me and possibly snap.

The JDM service interval is somewhat different from the maintenance schedule above, it's 45k or 5 years whichever sooner. Most of the time it's actually the balance belt that causes problems, if that lets go it can jam the cambelt.
When the belts were changed on my VIII at around 5 years, the balance belt was in a shocking state, and most of the tensioners needed replacing also.

If you are not driving the hell out of your car i don't see why you would need to replace your timming belt at manufacurers schedule timing. 60k is a safe spot and 'recommended'. How long do you intend on pushing it? Just curious.
