Boost fuel cut/rev limit at 5500rpm????HELP!
My car is Stock, the only mods being an evo 9 bov and intake.
I have been having this problem ever since I purchased my evo 8 3 months ago, my car seems to have a rev limiter at 5000-5500rpms. Everytime I try to go above 5000-5500rpms I will hit a rev limiter where the rpms will just bounce back and fourth. This will happen even when I am in neautral and it happens EVERY TIME! So far I have replaced the coils, BOV, and spark plugs. I have done a boost leak test and fixed all the leaks even the small o rings in the throttle body. I am out of ideas now and I would really like to get this fixed. I have tried both the stock air box and the intake and it makes no difference. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

It happens all the time, its a totally stock car right now...Are you suggesting that it might have been tuned in the past and put back to stock? Otherwise I don't think any of the limits should have been modified.

The car had 2400 original miles on it when my father bought it, there is just no way it was modded before I bought it from him... There is no check engine light unfortunately.

wow, stop being a hard headed 2010'er. these guys are telling you what your problem is, and you still haven't even answered their basic questions yet. do you want to solve this or do you just want to ***** about it?
#1 Does it happen while you are driving. for example if you get on it in gear, can you get to redline before you shift, or do the revs stop climing at 5500? YES or NO
#2 Does it only happen in neutral when the car is sitting still? YES or NO
It sounds like it's got a 2 step on it. like someone else said, get a damn tactrix cable, get ECUflash and find out where your limits are set.
2400 miles is plenty of time for someone to do a basic tune. Changing the rev limits takes all of about 2 minutes.
Stop fighting the help, and go check what we told you to check.

Wow, I don't see any text that makes me seem "hard headed" but sorry if you make me out that way. I'm simply trying to solve a problem that I have a ton of time invested in. The car does not have a two step, it has not always been this way, just since I purchased it. It happens in all gears and in neutral like I mentioned above, I cannot rev any higher hence the word "limit." I dont appreciate the 2010'er comment, just because I've only been an evo owner for under a year doesn't mean I haven't been around DSMs for longer than you have.

honestly your best bet is to do some datalogging and pull your rom, it seems like the problem may be computer related. My car has had this random misfiring problem recently where the car begins to sputter right around 3,800 rpm's at WOT. It turned out the coil over cylinder 1 went bad and the spark plug wasn't firing. s past
while you are driving, will the rpm's go past 5,500 if your not on WOT?
