Help Walbro GSS342 will not fit!

Help Walbro GSS342 will not fit!
I currently own a JDM Lancer Evolution 7 RS. I have had multiple evo's in the past and have fitted quite a few walbro pumps in my life, so its not like my first time.
Here is my problem. On my 7 RS, the walbro 255 (GSS342) is actually longer than the pump that is currently in the housing. Unfortunately when I put the walbro in the housing I cannot get the bottom on the housing to snap into place. It is approximately .5" too long. So I tried to zip tie the bottom on the pump and install it in the tank, however now the assembly hits the bottom of the tank. If the walbro will not fit any other options that I could use that are approximately 5" shorter than the walbro? thanks for your help.
