I make sure the sevice writer puts '10-30 full synthetic' on the work order. I don't think the dealerships put their top techs on oil changes. You get the rookie apprentice and they didn't send him/her to the EVO school. Don't assume anything - make sure the service writer puts down on the ticket.

I just bring my own oil. That way I can make sure they use the type and grade I want. Besides, the dealer charges $9 or $10 per quart of Mobil 1. You can get it at Target/Wal-Mart for like $4.

Basically what JJ said is correct. Castrol is group 3 where Mobil is a group 4 oil. Because of Castrol and that court case the quality of the oils that can be called synthetic have gone down. Even Mobil 1 isn't as good as it used to be, it's not bad by any means, just it used to be better a few years back. For instance Amsoil there 7500 series line says it is "synthetic", but only there oils that say 100% synthetic actually are, like there 2000 series.

I bring my own mobil 1 oil to the dealer everytime, I know they use it, but they still put a castrol sticker on my window everytime. I just peel that thing off.

I took my car in to the dealer for the first change and have done the rest myself since. I had to buy my own Mobil 1 when I took it to the dealer because they did not stock it at the time. Mitsu stocks Castrol for all their oil changes, but (at least the ones in my area) are stocking Mobil 1 specifically fro the Evos. I had a Castrol sticker in mine as well even though I brought in my own Mobil 1.

Funny stuff, have you guys looked under the hood yet?

Yeah right on the oil cap is says mobile one 10-30. I dont think the tech at the dealership would just ignore that and risk getting gripped out because he didnt feel like using mobile one.

I've always done my own oil changes (as well as all the maintenence, actually) on all my previous cars. However, considering how **** Mitsu are about their warranties, I figured it would be nice to have that service stamp at each oil change. My local dealer only charged about $15 for the filter and labor when I bring my own oil.

same as mine they posted a Valvoline sticker , but i saw went they put in mobil 1 synthetic oil.
On being 100% none of these are like : castrol , mobil, valvoline and some other brands .
They were a huge article about it about a year or so ago. Where Mobil wanted to make sure that Castrol posted synthetic blend on there oil since they were only running 75% synthetic oil. But Castrol got away with it , also some other have had articles on Mobil 1 that is not a true 100% synthetic oil.
If you want to run 100% synthetic then you need to look in to amzoil or Motul and im sure there are other companies that make some ..

Never assume anything. My Mitsu dealer was about to pour in NORMAL Castrol oil until I asked the guy what he thought he was doing not putting sythetic in the car. He was like, "These take synthetic," and had a confuded look on his face. The service writer was equally stunned and only said, "Well, I guess your oil change will be more expensive then," and had NO CLUE the car took synthetic. Of course the dealer also told me that the front nose mask for my Evo was the same one as the standard Lancer!! ARGH!! Moron!! It took me dragging his butt out into the parking lot and showing him the different front ends to get it through his head. ARGH!!
