Water pump pulley grinding motor mount!
hey all
i've been experience this grinding problem for the past 2 weeks or so. i originally thought the passenger side motor mount that was causing the engine to drop this so i replaced it on spec with AMS bushings......didnt fix it.
but i did notice that the bottom of the mount itself not the inserts was grinding due to the fact that it was a shiny where it was rubbing, and the horrendous grinding noise that happens rarely when i am driving.
I can almost replicate the problem by cruising at around 30mph and turning on the air conditioning, although when i slow down so i can pull over to see where exactly it was rubbing it would go away.
I crawled underneath the car this morning to check out the front motor mount, it seemed to be in tact, no tears, same with the transmission side mount and the rear tranny mount. I double checked the pasenger side mount and it was on there good n tight.
I did check out my rear mustache bar bushings where it mounts to the subframe, and they are pretty weak, i can get a 1/4 socket extension between it and the subframe and get the rear diff to move a bit without too much force.
Could the rear mustache bar bushings cause the whole drivetrain assembly to move forward a bit enough to allow the water pump pulley to hit the engine mount?
any input would be greatly appreciated.
p.s the water pump pulley is the one directly under and 2-3 inches back of the passenger side mount. Reference: Service manual.
