5th gear grind

this grinding just started lately after my trip to the drag strip...........normal shifting=grind, fast shifting=more grind.......however really slow shifting that takes 3-4 sec to put it in gear!lol!=no grind

all other gears are perfect.

is it the syncros?

yes, put 3 quart of pennzoil synchromesh, fixed my friends problem on his Evo for a very very long time. This oil is not for racing but it's perfect for fast shifting daily driving and daily WOT

Most likely yes, but may I suggest Doing this.

If you are pulling the trans for a rebuild might as well go to town. We have the Stage 2 service done on our car and the quality is very impressive.

rebuild is the last option, you may try the synchromesh 10$ a litre, it could probably make your tranny feel like a new one for the next 50k miles, after that, this will be rebuild time.
The mitsubishi stock gearbox oil is way too thick and gives bad performance.

Research twin discs... After you rebuild your trans get into a twin disc they seem to solve lock out for most.

Just get a stock rebuild kit replacing all the synchros, download the evo manual, grab a couple of , do it yourself. You're just going to want to have a hydraulic press to pull off/install the gears on the input and output shaft. I did mine by myself (and I'm a noob on anything trans related) and it came out perfectly.

I had good experience with it. my car had redline in it, started getting very notchy, boarderline grinding in 3rd and 5th, when the cold weather came. put in the amsoil and it is like a new trans. I would recommend it

I had gear grind for quite a bit of time and thought it was the syncro's never replaced them, one day my clutch died and when I replaced the clutch the grind was gone for good... So if u have a bad clutch and tob that could be your issue
