Crazy to mod a 160k mile original motor?

Just got great deal on a 03 TB 8 with 160k miles! last owner put 150k miles on it commuting over 100 miles/day. he took great care of it and babied it .original clutch made it to 125k!! runs and drives great. wondering if Im dumb to mod the motor?
nothing to crazy. cams, stock frame turbo (maybe HTA green or BBK-B) an supporting mods. or should I leave it alone? thinking of building a 2.4 in future.
thought about selling it and get something with lower miles to mod. I really want a WW 9 or my RS2 7 back I should have never sold! lol

You should be fine do a compression test and that will tell your judgement. Also do all your maintenance fluid changes and by your mileage it should of had its 60k maintenance done 3 times. If that was kept all up to date you should be fine. Goodluck.

I dont Know but I would say go for it. I just flipped 105K on the clock and did cams and the like at 5K and have not had one bit of problems.

I think if the car was taken care of and not abused I say heck ya. you may even see the damn thing runs better, better mileage and the like.

I would however have some cash set aside for the just in case scenerio.

At that milage its not the motor that could start giving you problems but more of the other moving parts as in suspension. bearings, etc. Rethink your decision it is an investment your making you dont want a garage queen.

this is a good point. The motor will likely be fine, but alot of other parts could be worn out. Just something to consider. Bushings and such might need a refresh, but it depends on your taste and how you use the car.

lol, only rarely is modding an investment. I think the correct term is "sunk cost".

LOL modding is never an investment, its a sunk cost as pointed out before. But its all up to you if you want to mod, like mentioned previously i have seen much higher mileage stock motored DSMs take some serious modding and be 100% fine, there are a lot more factors involved then just mileage alone in deciding whether a motor will hold up or not.

Like mention before by other motor might be healty (did he show you paper work of maintenance?) but you need to worry or just check out if other parts of the car is good suspension trans etc
