If you have an open element I'd say its not helping too much anymore.

I say every little bit helps...I ran the snorkel till I wasn't able to when I switched to a straight outlet radiator...If I still had a stock outlet radiator, I would still be running the snorkel...

If you end up taking it off, you can sell it rather quickly on ebay or the marketplace. I was looking around forever for one and finally had to cave in and buy one at the dealership for retail. These things rarely pop up along with the hood vents and cam gear covers.
