Over Sensitive throttle!

I recently have my car tune.

Before my tune, I was able to drive around town, & even go on to the highway (to about 65-70mph) without boosting. I usually do not boost much when I am DD (usually 1800-3200 rpm), only during overtaking, & once in a while spirited drive.

Thats one of the thing I like about my evo. I can drive my mum around, & she will never know I have a sport car, as long as I go easy on the throttle (about <30% throttle I reckon). Its good for gas mileage too.

Now, I can't go above 2000rpm without the turbo spooling no matter how gentle I feather the throttle. Its like a race car now! Its painful to drive as a DD,when I just wanted to get out of carpark, or have a quiet drive in pack traffic, or running on boost all the way on the highway.

If I keep this setup, I can see the lifespan of the turbo to drop significantly, as is gas mileage.

Is that something to do with throttle mapping, or some mechanical setting, or what? I am hopping for some input before going back to my tuner.

How much boost are you seeing at 2k RPMs? If you are boosting while cruising i.e. no load on the engine, something else it up.

It is a race car man and detuned out of the box if you ask me but I'd say flash it back to stock or any reputable tuner will be able to tune spool/power back a bit.

I know on the IX's you can get some nice spool increase with the mivec mapping

Hmm...that's part of tuning the car it gets your car a faster spool. You just have to be lighter on the throttle if you don't like it you might need to tell your tuner but that defeats the purpose of tuning.

It start at about zero. Which is similar to my previous setting.

The difference is the amount of throttle to get the car to boost.

Previously, I need to get about 30% (give & take) throttle before boost can build up.
So below that, the rpm will climb, as is the speed, but the boost stay below zero.

This is I guess how the car respond in stock form.

Now, it will start to boost at 2000rpm, no matter the % throttle I step. I guess it is good for a delicate track car, or a non DD. For a DD, its like accelerating the death of the car, in my opinion.

Sounds like a sticking wastegate causing boost spikes

Maybe you just got use to DD driving and no boost, so it only seems like its abnormal...lol.

What type of boost control are you using? If your using ECU boost, the boost can be tuned to come on slower/lazier.

you could also just buy another cam, which would be much cheaper than buying another turbo lol. Or you could just retard your valve timing with some adjustable cam gears which would be the cheapest route-even cheaper than getting another tune
