It's like going to the doctors for check ups. You can pass on them, but when you get cancer it will be way too late. If you fail to change your timing belt and it happens to snap, you can have a lot more $$$ damage on your hands than the $800-1000 timing belt/water pump/balancer belt change.

I have never changed a timing belt without changing the waterpump.. it would be a waste of time and money not to do it. And I have prob changed about 20 timing belts.

What it comes down to is used parts lasting another 60,000 miles vs new parts lasting 60.000 miles. Either could fail in that time but there is less chance with new parts. So, it is a cost/risk decision that only you can make.

If you think about it you would be like killing 3 birds with one stone cause when you change your water pump and timing belt your going have to change out your coolant also. Plus I would also change the tensioner cause you dont want that go out while driving. Than your gonna need $$$$$ to dish out after that.
