IX MR SE vs IX SE - slightly different than every other thread on this topic
So after digging through a bunch of threads I think I know this but want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Compared to the base IX, the SE adds:
-red stitched seats
-the front lip/zero lift thingie
-BBS's
-aluminum roof
-HIDs/fog lights
The only things I know of that the MR SE has that the regular SE doesn't:
-6 speed (and associated hardware - shifter cables, clutch, shifter trim, etc)
-vortex generators
-gauge pack
-MR badges
-Bilsteins
My question is - am I missing anything? If I wanted to truly, fully, 100%, I mean it convert an MR SE to an SE, do I have to do anything other than this?
-Swap the 5-speed in (and associated hardware)
-Remove the VG's
-Put the stock KYB's on
-Remove the gauges (gonna do this anyway to put Defis in)
-Remove MR badges, replace with SE badges
Or are there a bunch of little differences that I'm missing?
Thanks
John

first the MR has the aluminum roof too. Second the MR SE combo is very rare so no one would ever try to convert them to just SE. The only thing different from MR that SE has is the red stiching seats, the lip and sun roof.
Also evo SE has diamond black color BBS wheels, MR has charcoal color BBS.

Also, MR has the brake cooling ducts
It's funny, I'm trying to get my SE to the MR spec, by adding the Bilstein and the brake cooling ducts, while you're trying to take everything off. Maybe we should really just trade cars instead of going through all these

The SE has an aluminum roof.
Do you know how many SE were imported vs MRs with an Appearance Package?
There's no sunroof on the SE. Only the (IX) SSL came with a sunroof.
OP, I don't know if cosmetic interior bits matter to you, but the SE didn't come the a CF e-brake handle. This being said, other than the 6-speed and its associated bits, the Bilsteins, and the badges, all other MR pieces could have been had on an other Evo as an option.
Good point; forgot about that. They're actually cooling guides, not ducts. I have them on my SE (an option). If you're thinking of getting them for track days, I'd suggest ducts, instead.

the MR SE is just a term enthusiates coined so there is no such thing. as said its MR with appearance package and we all know dealer options dont add much to the resale value. also i've been told the appearance package is actually done dealerships.
in the other hand the SE was built as such in japan then shipped so its more special in my option.
anyhow i dont think its ever worth converting either one to another another, except adding the bilsteins on the SE or removing the 6speed on the MR if it blows on the track.

Thanks for the correction, I didn't know what they were officially called. I'm trying to find the most cost effective brake cooling ducts/guides to put on the car. I heard the stock ones are pretty easy to break off, and the AMS one is pretty pricey. Do you know of any other kinds?

I mentioned the difference, because the OEM guides really are just guides. They don't funnel cool air directly, rather, they guide air toward the brake area in a manner similar to a spoiler.
FWIW, on the IX gears 1-4 are almost identical on the 5-speed and the 6-speed. If you wish you had a 6-speed, just pretend you have one.
