Paint or vinyl?

Within the next year I will be going flat black on my Evo. I have been quoted $2500 to paint everything (door jams other stuff) except the engine bay painted flat and a flat clear.

I was asking around and could possibly get a full vinyl for around the same give or take.

With vinyl as I understand it I could always go back to original color if I ever chose to do that (doubtful though), but then again I could always have it repainted later also.

My main question is which is the best choice paint or vinyl? Does one hold up better than the other? I have no experience with either a flat paint or vinyl as far as hardiness goes.

Anyone with experience with either or both? Are they about equal or pretty different?

Personally, I would never pay close to $2500 for vinyl. If it's the color you want and you plan to keep your Evo for a long time, I would just go with paint.

That is not an exact quote I will get that this week. I guy I work with was going to do a full vinyl and he said he was quoted that.

What is a good price for a full vinyl?

Yeah I plan on keeping the Evo, which is sort of why I am asking to see which is the best overall, since I have no idea about vinyl.

Vinyl for me just seems like such a temporary thing, I would expect it to be much cheaper around $600-1000. Anything more than that and I would just go with paint.

Not too sure how matte vinyl would look either.

I think these might be vinyl, not sure though.

These are supposed to be vinyl.

Yeah I was looking it up on here and found two older threads in show and shine where members did flat black.

Then I looked up other flat black cars and knew that was the color I wanted more than any other.

I tried explaining it to someone I work with as an orgam for the eyes.

I have heard that flat paint is a pain to repair ie. rock chips, scratches ect. I agree though, it looks baller.

I guess I should say that my evo is not a dd anymore and it does not see track time. I take it out for fun backroad driving though.

Yeah that is sort of a bummer about the paint. It can also be made to have a bit more shine if rubbed wrong.

I am not sure how vinyl holds up though to rocks either.

If you have the skill or know someone who can do it for a reasonable price (~1000 IMO), wrap is fine. Any more than that though, I'd lean towards paint.

No way am I doing this. I do not have that kind of faith in myself

I take it they are about equal in pros and cons cost aside that is?
