I know you have to remove the 4 10mm bolts holding it on so you can get the timing cover off. Not sure if you have to remove the big 22mm I can't remember I know I did, if you want to remove that just put a socket with a breaker bar on it and "bump" the starter. Just turn the key enough so the engine cranks but doesn't start, worked every time for me.

Always loosen the water pump pulley bolts with the belt still on (for future reference). You can also use two 10's, one to hold it, one to turn. If you can use a long handled wrench and hold it with your hand give it a whack with a hammer, it should loosen it just a bit but all that has to come off to do it right
This is also useful for tightening bolts down during re-installation.
