Just a question. Have you ever seen one break that DIDN'T have that extra little plastic lip thing on the top? Seems like it could add a little extra (maybe a lot of) down force on the wing.

im in utter shock... i sort of feel like kicking myself in the *** for letting mitsu replace my 8 wing with a 9 wing, because of the fading clear coat. sucks at the time i said hell yea new wing without even thinking, but damn i didnt know the 9 wing was flimsy like that. i do recall going higher speeds with the wing on and it didnt snap... hmm i guess im gonna have to keep the speed down when its on very good info show those 9 owners who boss my brotha!!! lol

Also how fast was you "hi-speed" run?
You have the power to hit 200, but not sure of your gearing.
I am sure the wing isn't designed to see any more than factory top speed, so if you were over that I wouldn't be complaining.

Or it could just be the gurney flap putting too much force onto the wing.

Exact miles. Don't know. The Defi HU display meter was reading 178 the first time and 185 on the second. The dent on the trunk was from the force impact when it broke. I heard a loud thud when it happened. And yes I the gurney flap adds extra downforce, but no, haven't seen one without it break.

I don't think the OP has fully answered how this happened.

I didn't know the difference w/the 8 & 9 wing horizontals. I find the thread interesting & photos are great. Never knew the 8 wing had a polyurethane foam core which would add strength.
I thought the only diff was the interior carbon panels on the verticals

The OP still hasn't explained how the failure occurred. Ive had my wing subjected to 140+ speeds & I don't believe that high speed caused this failure.

Looks like vandalism to me

So what closed course were you on where you got up to 185?

This isn't really a definitive answer to this...you were doing 185 as it seems.. and had an extra gurney flap on the wing..

^^I've heard of IX wings breaking around 140.

Lol the evo 8 wing is legendary, that thing has survived through so many crashes that i've seen here on the forums. The IX wing can't possibly be stronger considering the entire evo 8 wing is CF and the ix wing is mostly plastic. Try sanding down the paint on both and see for yourself.

wow i figured since the 8 wing is stiffer and cant really flex that it would be more prone to break compared to the 9 good info but i would like to see what would happen if you put the gurney flap on the 8 wing and see if it makes a difference

Wow! I guess we should all go wingless then! lol jk. But yes, the 9 wing does feel/appear flimsy.

I'll do it if you send me a gurnee flap
