basically impossible, that cost must of been some construded information..... the service quote is in the thousands for 60k mile service from a dealer. I got a quote a few months ago, if you look at the entire list mits recommends for service it is ALOT, that is what the dealer quotes

It was 513.00 total with tax for the Timing belt kit, which consisted of Timing belt, balance belt, 3 pulleys, tensioner, Water pump and necessary Gaskets. All OEM products.. It was a great deal considering Mitsu was going to charge me 580 plus tax for everything! I Just picked it up yesterday..... Also I bought a Thermostat and Timing tensioner tool from AMS all around total costed me about 600 which is a dam good price.... I didnt agree on the tensioner tool being 50 bucks because I saw it on a website for like 20 bucks but I needed one right away. But the REAL question now is, should I just spend the extra 70 bucks for the Gates belts??????
Going to do my timing belt at home tonight wish me luck lmao

Yea, I don't like to do work Half -AXE lol I do everything by the mitsu service manual, Torqued and everything. I know that if I happened to just lift the head and slide the head gasket in, most likely it wouldn't be aligned properly and more problems would occur. Besides the OEM head gasket is 3-layered Metal so I shouldn't have any worries when it comes to if I should change it.

^^^ There's a dowel on the block .5 - .75" tall. This means you need to lift the head that high in order for you to "slide" the gasket in. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by "sliding" the gasket in.

There are always dowels... Im well aware of that.... now that I found out about the head gasket material, Im not going to change it unless absolutely needed.

Just finshed the timing belt... I took pics. Ill post a write up pretty soon. I couldnt find an in-depth write up and the service manual isn't very clear on exactly how to do it. I just dont want anyone to be spending so much time searching for information like I did.
So I purchased timing belt kit - water pump incld... 513 tax included .. Thermostat 45 bucks...and coolant
I ended up accidentally dropping the harmonic balancer and chipping it so I got an OEM one for 170 total
So i spent right around 730 for parts
