Small leak need advise
I think my power steering rubber boot is leaking, it seems like the metal tightener is off spot and the rubber boot is not completely over the rack and pinion metal thing that looks like a coolant pipe. It's the rack and pinion boot thing pretty much right below the driver side.
What is the best way to access this? It just seems pretty hard to reach and I don't even see the screw for the fastener. I was guessing just take out the battery and try to reach from there or maybe if I'm lucky I can reach from underneath the car lifted.
Is it normal for this spot to be leaking if the rubber boot is loose? I'm just a little worried it could end up getting worse and having to buy a new rack and pinion steering.
Kind of odd though the fluid is at a medium low level still, and the resevior was only topped off once in seven years.
The fluid almost smelled like gear oil and trans fluid though, didn't really match the smell of my power steering fluid, not sure but fairly certain it is the power steering boot. Any other guys ever had this problem or maybe it was the idiot who did my first clutch change just knocked it loose.
