I agree, I am not a fan of the new WRX's. I have had a 05 STi, 2 Evo IX's, 2 X's and a 08 WRX. I prefer the IX but my only complaint is the interior is pretty bland compared to that of the X. IX is by far my first choice for any car in the SUB 60K range...Go with what you like though, nothing beats the boxer engine growl...at least you will sound good when your behind the IX at the track lol

I own an Evo IX and owned a 2003 WRX for 8+ years, and my wife had a 2008 STi hatch for a while.
IMHO - for daily use, absolutely the WRX:
1) You can get plenty of power out of em - not a gajillion hp like the Evo, but enough to be happy with unless you're one of those quarter mile types.
2) The interior is nicer. Heated seats!
3) The killer: it's hard as **** to find a nice Evo IX. By comparison, to get a nice 2011 WRX, you go to the dealer and write them a check
4) Based on my experience so far - I would bet that the WRX will be (comparatively) less of a pain to own.
5) You can get the hatch, which IMHO looks pretty sharp plus it holds a lot more stuff.
If you were building an autox or track car - Evo all the way.

this is really like apples and oranges.....but it is all in what you want. i have both of these. the 2011 is my wifes car.
2011 wrx
pro's
warranty
oil change every 7500miles
boxer rumble...if you like that
looks very good, and good interior
blue tooth connectivity
good trunk space
roomy interior
con's
boxer ruble...if you don't like that
plastic everything under the hood to save money(get topmount, blowoff valve first)
seat's are crap compaired to evo
5 speed is not that good, very loose(can be fixed w/bushings,shortshift)
shocks/springs(handles like a Cadillac)(first thing is coilovers)
damn steering wheel does not go up enough
this is what my wifes car looks like
2006 evo
pro's
stout motor
brembo brakes
recaro seats
decent suspension....better w/MR bilstein
good interior
in my opinion best looking evo avail in U.S.(don't like all black plastic on x)
con's
no warrenty, not that it was worth anything anyways..
maintenance cost. clutch is pricey, stock tire change out after 15k, Premium oil every 3k, pad's and rotor change after 20k, etc
will be used, who know's what was done to it
(as you can see i have a hard time with con's)
here is a pic of my evo9(yes i know it's hella flush, let's keep comment's on topic)
if you have any questions just pm me, i will answer
