Simota Mushroom filter
I have just bought a carbon air box for my evo and it came with a free simota air filter, is it worth putting this on or going for a better quality filter?
EDIT: The evo is about 420whp still running the stock panel filter, but with an upgraded intercooler and ecu im hoping for at least 500whp. Will the simota filter with a 3" inlet significantly reduce potential power rather than one with a 4" one the same size as my
intake pipe?

I had a mushroom filter on an older car of mine...let's say my car wasn't running healthy for a while. The foam pieces were deteriorating over time and being sucked into the intake.
Stick with a panel filter or a cone if you can man.
That's just my experience though

If your gunna use a foam filter, I advise you to get the HKS foam filters. I had mine in for a bit longer than I should have and it never came apart. But now I use K&N filters because they are cleanable and reuseable. K&N cone filters also usually have a 4" inlet, so no adapter or reducer needed. Pay for quality.

Ive always used K&N filters on all my cars over the years and have always been happy with their performance. My question was more related to the actual carbon fibre intake kit that they make as its much cheaper than the gruppe m and from visual (only pics online) that the filter in the gruppe m induction kit looks a bit small.
Heres the simota kit

gruppe m

Im after a stock(ish) looking setup as i want to stay legal.
Thoughts guys??
Personal experiences with the kits would be nice too

Did you end up getting either of these kits?
I too am looking at both of these mainly for the increased induction noise as gains seem minimal, and australian road rules mean we have to keep the filter inclosed.
The Gruppe m is around $1000 and the simota is $500.
Id love the gruppe kit but $1000 is hard to justify.
