Suspicious evo 8...
So, looking around on Craiglists and I come across an evo 8 MR SSL with 34k miles on it for 18.5k. Sounds too good to be true.
The vehicle has been in a small front end accident where the front bumper was replaced which is a red flag in itself, but he also said and I quote "There's an odometer rollback listed on the carfax which is a mistake because the odometer is digital and can't be rolled back"
A quick google search says that digital odometers can be rolled back....
He also mentions that it is bone stock besides an exhaust and just had another stock clutch put in.
What do you guys think? It just seems fishy and too good to be true

Sounds a little suspicious but don't let the price make you think it's to good to be true, I say that because there's a guy in my town who is selling (may have sold already) a clean AMS built evo for ~$20000. But really if I were you wouldn't buy anything that has had a minor to major accident unless I'm there or someone else is to inspect it.

Craigs list I assume its local then....how about you go look at it and judge for your self... make arrangements then and take it to someone you trust to check it out---as with any used car. The speedo--- you need to be very carefull about---if indeed it shows on the car fax....walk away.

Yeah, I would see the car first before making assumptions. He explained the accident and he explained the ODO. For all we know, he could just sell you without telling you any of this. I'm just going to assume here that your first thought was not a Carfax of it. When I got my car, I didn't think about a Carfax. A day later, I decided to go back to the dealer and ask for one. Luckly, it was clean but sadly, the car was used and abused and I'm the 6th owner...

just carfax it. the most recent mileage reading (if there is one) can give you an estimate of the miles on the car.
if the mileage read 5k over the current cluster mileage 6 months ago, then it's not too bad.
the car could be a good deal, but if you're considering it then find an evo shop and take it there for a FULL inspection.
also don't buy it if you plan to sell it ever, it will be very hard to with a record like that, but if you can work them down it could be a good deal depending on what carfax/autocheck and the FULL inspection say

A mileage discrepancy can happen if a repair facility writes down wrong mileage, either higher or lower, & the next reported correct mileage can throw a red flag that the mileage is off. I've seen this happen to too many used cars that get traded in at work. It's very very difficult but not impossible to rectify, if u have all proper documentation. If it happened while under ownership of a previous owner - pretty much impossible. I'd only buy a car like that for the right price..
Go check the car out in person. If the owner is willing, take it to an Evo specialist to look over. Minor accident might mean u can pick up an MR for a sweet deal!
