I believe the Evo requires you to be passed redline for a set amount of time before it cuts fuel. If it happened once, don't sweat it. It's bad for the engine, but doing it once isn't going to destroy your engine unless you're really unlucky.

You can adjust the fuel cut limit, but depending on your valve train modifications, stroke, and motor (built/stock block etc) your maximum safe rpm will differ. Even hitting fuel cut isn't necessarily damaging to the motor although its to be avoided. One of the turns on Summit Main requires me to run right up to redline (I could really use some more revs on turn 9!) so last month I hit the rev limit and fuel cut on one of my laps there.

Yeah I've seen a video of Sti, Evo, RX-7, and the 2 Evos were revving to 8k every time. And revving to 7500 doesn't always mean you'll run faster, if stock it most likely makes less power at 7500
