Aem Intake welds? and coupler?
Hey everyone,
I purchased an AEM intake several months ago and have been a bit hesitant to install it. Currently, I own and have the samco intake installed, but the AEM carb sticker and heat shield was definitely one of the reasons why I decided into investing one. I have posted a thread awhile ago asking if there were any differences between a silicone intake vs a metal tube intake and have not found an answer to which one is better. But one of the main reasons I have not installed it into the car yet is because of the welds in the intake pipe and I was wondering if everyone else had them also? Obviously these welds can lead to turbulence and to my understanding that is something you do not want.
And as far as the coupler fitment. Does not fit very well at all very little room, doesn't full cover the turbo and intake pipe. =\

Yea. I had AEM intake before and fitment was . First of all, size of filter is huge therefore it rubs against hood when its closed. It filters really good though. Also they put bov wrong location. It's right under upper radiator hose and I had to squeeze bov in tight space. Other than that, I loved loud spool sound.

fitment is definitely terrible, but main concern is also the welds that are in the intake? is all of yours like this also??
@Ryuartz - I believe the remedy to your problem from the bov hitting the radiator hose is actually trimming about an inch or an inch and a half off the rubber house from the uicp and it should clear it just fine.

I had a problem with the coupler from the pipe to maf...They include the incorrect size. I had them send me another, which was the exact same one. I had to heat and stretch it. Yes I could have bought another brand, but the fiasco made me late for my tuning session.
I wouldn't sweat the weld, it's after the maf and is on the suction side of system

Don't know about turbulence but I've ran one for 3 years and never had any problems with something like "turbulence". Spooled really loud (the spool just echoed in this pipe) and makes the DV louder. Fitment was OK. I had some cheap no brand cone filter and it fit just fine. Then, I bought an Amsoil filter that was bigger and that fit just fine too. In order to avoid the filter from hitting the hood, you have to adjust the piping.
This setup worked great. I then removed my FMIC sprayer and it fit even better.
