Is it safe

I have my car tuned for 26lbs of boost. When full throttle every now and then i get knock.(rapid flash of check engine light) And air fuels read 10's(10.2-10.5) right in that area. Now the tuner said it was from heat soak. And he cant get rid of it, he told me to get a bigger intercooler and pipes and it will fix it. Or to turn the boost down.

Now with 26psi im blowing the intercooler pipe off more than i want to.(with hairspray, t-bolt clamps)

Now my question is can i turn my boost down say to 24psi and not have to retune?

Also my air fuels bounch at idle from 14.2-15.6 constantly i will upload a video. Also bounces during cruising, around 14.8-15.2 in that area.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHeUxoemYTY

Is that normal for idle(Cosworth m2 cams, springs retainers, walbro 255, cobbsf intake, invidia g200 turbo back catless, ebay o2 housing)

Main concern is whats in bold

I turned my boost down from 25psi to 22psi and pretty much eliminated knock counts. I run 93 octane maps but with heat soak and possibly bad gas I play it safe. I have had no adverse running conditions with lower boost on the same tune. You should be ok.

TBPH... it would seem that changing ANYTHING defeats the purpose of a tune.

I think, no I KNOW that if I were in your shoes I would prefer to play it safe and turn the boost down. As far as those AFRs being normal... I'm not as well versed as I'd like to be on that, so hopefully someone who has a specific opinion and experience will chime in.

But if the car is mapped at 26psi, and you dial it back to 22psi (for example), I find it hard to believe that you aren't just doing what Mitsubishi did from the factory? I mean, the cars run pig rich stock, so you have them tuned (even stock) and you see gains. If you tune for 26psi, and then remove a whole bunch of air, isn't that going to just have the car running rich again?

Clearly your tuner is suggesting to turn the boost down? Did you run out of injectors or what? Why is the car leaning out enough to cause knock?

grimmspeed manual boost controller.

I was planing to turn it from 26-27 to 24-25psi still plenty enough power for a daily driver. I made 360 wheel with 26-27psi and i really dont care about power. I would rather have a safe car than a fast car.

A safe car is a lot faster than a car that has a blown motor. Turn your boost down. Even with bad gas unless the tune was really razor edge (or bad) you shouldn't be knocking like that. Who tuned the car?

No luck turned it down to 23-24 psi and still get knock. I need to find someone to log and adjust my tune.
