Help With Mod Plan For First Tune (On A Budget)
#106
While doing this work my installer said I need the following also:
- Whiteline rear control arm - lower inner W62951 US $ 101.46 (2)
- Whiteline rear control arm - lower outer W62950 US $ 56.62 (2)
314.00 shipped
I don't know if it's the way I drive or what but this is the second time I've had my rear bushings fall apart (last time with the bugeye WRX, replaced them with stiffer STi bushings and the handling changed to much more neutral).
Well, I'll have that much better handling when it's done ...

Anyhow, I agree with him and figure since he's going to have all that apart anyway we might as well just bump up my schedule and knock the whole job out with the S2 cams, beehive springs, ARP studs and everything, save me a couple of hours of labor and a second tune.
So I've got the timing belt kit from MAP with the gates racing blue belt (figure I'll take my chances with the whine some people are having) and all of the other stuff in the list above. Do I need anything else? Do the parts match? S2s with the springs and the ARP studs? It think that's all I need but I'm hoping someone more knowledgable will take a quick peek and let me know it looks alright.
TIA.

Just got my car back from the shop a couple of weeks back...
- SOKIE TECH Gas Hood Damper Kit (Black Carbon Fiber) - $79.99 delivered - fits great (according to the installer, lol), works flawlessly, very nice for a cheap chinese/ebay part.
- I upgraded to michelin pilot super sport 245/40/17s (from Hankook ventus v12 235/45/17s), fit on my stock wheels fine, rides fine, handle like a dream, brake like hell, no wet weather experience yet.
- Had a new brake booster installed (stock part upgrades the failed Bendix with a Bosch) and,
- Had the Whiteline Roll Center Kit installed.
My grip improved which would normally cause one more body roll but no... the RCK is very effective. the car corners noticeably flatter and no longer feels "tippy" and unstable when slinging it into a turn.
There's this one high speed sweeper that, in the past, I could feel the car leaning to the left and gently bouncing off the springs throughout the long turn, really disconcerting... the RCK solved that, the car leans over less and then just stays put, the bounce back is gone. WELL worth the money, IMO. Much more confident feeling. In fact, I'd say you really don't want to lower your car without it.

Everyone said that I needed a new sending unit so I ordered it.

I used the new wires and rewired all the connections and put a spring clip on hose connection taking no chances.

The leftmost screw across the top. Tested working.

I crimped with these with vice grips. Certain they are tight.

Wired for Amber all the time. Sending unit white to boost gauge green, Gauge orange and red to acc power, white to nothing. Blacks to ground red from sending unit to acc power. Double checked all of this with the diagram from Prosport.
I double checked that the hose is flowing, that the filter is flowing, both are easy to suck air through.
BIG FAIL.
I'm exactly where I was before I started.
I guess the actual gauge itself is all that's left to change.
Does everyone agree?

I forgot to say in the my last update that last weekend I put in the new sensor using the existing wiring with no change in performance.
So this weekend I rewired the sensor and double checked all the hosing is clear with no change in performance.
So next weekend I guess I could try rewiring the gauge too. But I really think the wiring is fine it all looks tight and properly crimped. I think the gauge has simply gone bad.

245/40/17 tire is designed to run 8.5" width rim, even tho you feel it rides great, but it runs wider than stock 235/45/17 therefore the tire needs wider rim to fit

I did a ton or research here including getting the OK from Smike so I'm pretty comfortable that what I'm doing is working fine. they don't balloon past the rim or anything, the car rides like it's on rails.
