Wideband Bung Location

Hey guys,
On my car I have an AEM Wideband setup, however, the previous owner utilized the bung in the mid pipe for the sensor, rather than welding a bung on the down pipe. Do you think this is still accurate?

On the instructions that came with my AEM it said 10-28 inches from the turbo, which should be the entirety of the downpipe and very beginning of the mid pipe. Although I've heard of a lot of people scorning the mid pipe location. It should be fine, though.

FWIW, I have my wideband sensor located in the test pipe. You should be fine. Is mid pipe the same as test pipe? Hmmm, as I get older I get dumber.

Awesome. Thank you for the responses. And yes, sparky, they're the same. I'm used to the Mustang game where the "test" pipe is referred to as a "mid" pipe sometimes .

For the most part, on an EVO as long as it is before the cat or "cat location" you should be good.

Interesting; in the instruction booklet for my AEM 30-4100 UEGO gauge (page 8), it says:

"Mount the O2 sensor in the exhaust system at least 18 inches downstream from the exhaust port. If you anticipate high EGT's (over 800C), run a turbocharger, run at high RPM for extended periods of time or plan on running leading race fuel then you must mount the sensor at least 36 inches or more downstream of the exhaust port as all of these can cause the sensor to overheat."

There is no mention of the maximum distance from the exhaust port or manifold, just a specification to mount the bung so that the sensor will be angled at least 10 degrees from horizontal (with the electrical connection upwards) to keep water from pooling at the end of the sensor and thereby contaminating it.

Based on the underlined text above, it would seem like at the front of the test pipe would be the best/recommended location for sensor life, not the downpipe.

Also, does anyone know if there's a existing hole in the firewall or the floor of the that I can route the sensor connector through, so I don't have to drill a new 27mm-diameter hole in my Evo?

Remember to weld it in so that the sensor angle is at least 10* above horizontal.
