Trouble fitting 3.8 ets garret core fmic

I brought my car to local shop to have them install fmic. They said they need to trim at least an inch in the part of the front crash bar to make it fit, but that will make the bar useless. Any body here have any tips to make it fit with the crash beam on.

Thanks

Gotta be missing something cause ETS fits with no trimming. Does all the piping match up?

I remember seeing a couple threads where there is a rare occasion where the FMIC does not fit (when it should). Contact where you bought it from and troubleshoot with them. Also search for other threads because this has happened before.

Is that a custom ETS fmic? I thought for the Evo there was 4.0 wide not 3.8? If it's 4.0 they do say trimming of the bumper is required.
Also I thought ETS didn't use the Garrett core.

As far as I know ETS can use a Garrett core but you have to request for them to do it otherwise they use their core.

This is correct. ETS normally uses their own 4" core. However, upon request the 3.8" Garrett core is optional.

My custom ETS with 3.8 Garrett core fit fine with no changes to the crash beam. I only have to trim the two tabs where the bumper cover bolts into as they would hit the end tanks.

3 options here:

1. Trim the crash bar.
2. Return it for another with the 3.8in core.
3. Just leave the crash bar off.

Did u use the spacer on the two ends of the tank? Did your bar go in the way to the hanger or there's some space like mine? Thanks

Check how much clearance there is to the frame, steering cooler pipes etc... if there is no room there and you still need to trim, perhaps there is something wrong.

We treat the 3.8" just like the 4.0" intercooler. We have a lot of customers who say the 3.8" fits just fine w/o trimming, but we also have customers say the 4.0" fits w/o trimming. But the majority of the 4.0" guys require trimming or removal of the bumper beam. I imagine it's the same with the 3.8"

The only intercooler we say fits for sure is the 3.0" and the 3.5"

We really don't like to even sell the Garrett intercoolers, the Garrett's always leak from the factory and take a ton of time fixing to get them to hold pressure to our specs.

Michael
