Jack stand question....
I've heard that the oem jack point rail will bend by metal
jack stands...
So I bought this jack block by jcwhitney...
but it turns out it has a round base that is really for hydraulic
jacks.... b/c most jack stands look like this
What do you DIYers out there use to jack up our EVO?

Depends what I'm doing. For minor things like oil changes, ramps are MUCH less of a hassle. For anything else, I have yet to find a good jacking point, and from what I've seen on this forum, neither has anyone else.

I had the front of the car up on jackstands all day yesterday.
About 8 inches inboard from the OEM jacking point, there is a wider metal rail running front-to-back. There is a section of that rail where it is "doubled up" -- like one rail slips inside another and they're bolted together. (EDIT -- this is true at the front of the car, it may not be true at the back of the car...) I put the jackstands at that point. The rail is a good width for the top seat on my 2-ton jackstands.
Also see https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...000#post569810 which is where I got the idea.

I also agree that if you're not working with tires or suspension, ramps work well. I do oil changes with ramps. I also replaced the entire exhaust -- turbo to muffler tip -- with only the front wheels up on ramps.

I used jack and jack stand pads on the side rail with no problems. They have pads for different size jacks and stands.

Stands are put on the factory location. Slots not necessary. When jacking the car up I position the jack just of few inches from the factory jack point enough to allow me to put stands there once the car is up. The poly bushing absorbs and prevents the stand from bending the rail.
