Evo's Trade in/Resale Value [MERGED]
#256
Well Mitsu. lost my sale so if in fact they do read up on these forums I hope you see this. I went in ready to walk out of the dealer with a brand new EVO assuming the dealer didn't try and pull anything and was willing to deal. I let them know I wasn't some young guy wasting their time and had cash to buy one that day no financing needed. After keeping me there for over an hour going back and forth with the manager trying to get me the best price they came back with 30, 5xx + tax,tag and title. I looked at them like they had 3 heads on their shoulders and responded to them saying you realize its a 2003 a which is now a year old considering every other car manufacturer has released the '04 models for months now and with the '04 EVO just around the corner you would want to deal. This is what the idiot sales woman tells me... well we aren't even sure if the '04's are coming anymore and if they do they are only going to bring over 350 of them for the entire country. They want to focus on the '05 and go full steam with that one? I'm like what the F**k are you talking about lady? I have owned 3 x 3000GT VR-4's and a 2nd gen turbo Eclipse and I said I would never own another Mitsu product as long as I lived with all the tranny issues with the VR-4's I had including my '99 which sucked in terms of shifting and notchiness. You would think with a car that cost almost 50 grand they would have designed something a little better. Anyway back to my point, after I walked out in discuss and said maybe that was a blessing in disguise, that night I get onto Autotrader and look to see what Supra's were for sale and I found a Royal Saphire Pearl Blue car in AR and bought it that night. I get a phone call a couple days later from the idiot sales lady asking if I had reconsidered buying a car from them and I had just got back from my newest road trip from picking up another Supra and told her I bought another car because I wasn't happy with how they acted and she asked me what I got and almost tried to appoligize because she must have thought I was settling and felt bad for me. Then I told her what I paid and I think it finally dawned on her opps, good bye sales commission. I paid 35K for my new Supra and I think she was a little dumb founded and couldn't understand why someone would pay that much for a used car. Oh well, that's my story and experience. This is in no way a bashing of the car because I love them and still do. I've actually convinced one of my friends to get one in a couple months and another friend of mine is picking his up hopefully this Friday. I just can't stand Mitsu. as a company and having to deal with their crappy customer service in terms of sales crew and especially the service dept.

All I can say is this is my first and last I have never liked and their quality but was willing to give them a try do to the EVO 8. The car is great and I love driving it but .
Poor customer service, screwy dealers, car issues, warranty problems, all of this brings down the resale value. And yes it sucks but resale value's coming down fast. better start getting their act together

resale value sucks on any car. I see STIs for like 27 grand with like 1200 miles on them. And i see EVos for 24 with 12000 miles on them. Whenever you buy a car plan to keep it or else your going to take a loss.

Price on a used Evo
A dealer here has a Silver 2003 Evo for sale with 16,500 miles on it. They are asking $26,000. How much do you guys think that car should be worth? I also have a trade in but I dont want to tell them about it till they give me a number for the Evo. Thanks!

yeh, you should get a new one if you can find one.
In Atlanta, I couldn't find one, so I bought one used.
14k miles at $25,000 at carmax. But it had sunroof and cruise control. Also, I've gotten new tires, new rim, clutch, front rotors and brake pads(coming soon). So i've saved a lot of money by buying at carmax. I really think their 30day warranty was a lifesaver.
You shouldn't pay more than $25,000 for it. Also, depends on the condition of the car and financing situation...

I paid full sticker, ~30k for an 03 with 5 miles on it last weekend and I think I got a hell of a deal, especially being upside down in the car I traded in. Down here in florida, you cant touch a new or even slightly used Evo for under sticker.

I think alot of these numbers are too low....
Yes, in SOME places new ones can be found for a tad under $26k , but thats extremely rare. There is no way you'll find a new for anywhere near $21k. On average, anywhere around $26 - $27.5k is a good deal. You should be able to snag a used one with 16k miles for somewhere around $23k. No more than $24k tops for a silver.
