I think as far as resale value the Supra had the toy name behind it plus if I recall it was over 40 grand. I do not see many Mitsu cars that hold value that well.

my point exactly, the history mitsu has doesn't help it's resale, however the evo is one of japan's highly respected vehicles. The Supra was only mentioned as an example of how "some" imports can hold their value. What did u mean by the supra having the "toy" name behind it?

Toyota's are renowned for their quality... the "toy"ota name. Mitsu isn't, so that's not good.

The bottom will fall out of the resale of the evo. They are already at like $5000 under what you paid for them the second that you walk off of the lot.

Nobody buys a car for it's resale value! Unless you are buying a rare classic...

Resale

Anybody who can sell their Evo for more than $23000 in a private sale is a genius. I am sure a dealer can find a sucker here and there, but there's no way any of us can expect to sell our cars for more than that.

I have bid and offered MANY owners $23k to purchase their EVO's and to date after about 2 serious weeks with cash in hand I am still EVO-LESS.

I am not rush as this is a 2nd vehicle for me right now so eventually somebody will take the offer.

A guy on this site had somthing come up and had to sell his evo, it had 600 miles on it and the dealer offered him 21,000 for it on trade in. another dealer offered him23,000. and you know they would turn around and ask full price. car dealers are corrupt.

I would say resale will depend on the overall reliability and #'s produced.

That's about 50% of their original price, so it's nothing to "look" at really. And this car is no Supra.

Also, a car depreciates the most initially and then starts to taper off over time. So yes, buying one then turning around and selling it will give you the biggest loss.

Also, supras came up in price after the stupid Fast and Furious came out. I used to see TT six-speeds for like 18K, now its about 30 for the same car.

What are the residual allowances being granted for Evo leases? That will give a rough indication of the wholesale value after the lease period ends (2 to 3 years).

Then again, remember when VW was leasing new Jettas for $199 per month? VW Credit was assigning rediculously high residuals to keep the lease payments low and move the iron out the door.

And the worst part is Mitsu's release timing where the car is half a model year old when it debuts, and by the time the model year is over in February, the model year is a year and a half old! Own the car for six months and you're at your "two years" as far as most buyers are concerned.

I also wonder how many of these cars will survive with all the modifications and abuse, and what its reputation in the USA will be.. In other countries these cars are in demand.. I doubt people will want to pay top dollar.. But its really because the people who would be willing to buy this car may be the ones who can't afford to pay alot anyway.

Supply and demand may have some affect... Who cares, enjoy it for the car.. Not its resale.. You may be pleasantly surprised in a few years, you may not.. But would that take away from what this car is and what its lke to drive?
