maybe if drivers here would post more of their positive experiences and not only the negative, then others will see that this car is truly worth it and resale will be respectable

 

I have no idea about resale on this car, I plan to run it into the groud. I can say that the best resale car I have ever had has to be my nsx, lost about 6k in 6 years. THAT car was worth it. Of course I did put 15k into it and only drove it about 20k miles.

 

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but I'm curious on your opinions regarding the long-term resale value of the Evo. What do you think and what are your reasons supporting your stance?

 

I believe it will hold value since it's the first shipment ever to arrive to the US. It's not even sold in Canada. Might probably be the last ones. And Mitsubishi's not doing so well so if they go out of business, this car will really hold value.

 

But as I keep hearing about Mitsubishi's shady business practices, as well as their finance programs which supposedly are affecting our cars in a way, I'm not sure now if it may hold it's value.

I know all cars depreciate, but I was hoping the Evo wouldn't be like other Mitsubishi's, since this is, after all, their flagship vehicle, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this car supposed to fix their ailing image?

If they are so concerned with fixing their image, then why not take sweeping action against the stealerships, oops I meant dealerships, who price gouge and offer horrible, ridiculous service, as well as stand by their claims on what their products offer?

I figured, well since the Evo is the main car in 2F2F, it would go through the "Supra syndrome" where the first movie had pushed demand of the MKIV Supra to unseen heights, thus stabilizing or even increasing it's value ever more. But that never materalized, and I wonder why

Bah, I kind of went off-topic in my post, but I am curious about the resale value of this car.

I hope it will be like the Galant VR4's, as they are over 12 years old and still are worth more than $10K, unless I am mistaken.

With the import car market going in the direction it has been for the last couple of years I don't think Mitsu will stop sending Evos over. Especially with rumors of a RX7, and GTR on the way. I think Evos will hold there value pretty well, just look at a WRX that is in good condition, those are getting decent trade in $$$. I definately think the first year Evos will hold the value a little better. I guess the bottom line is keep your car looking new, and keep the miles low.

 

well w/ the way it performed in the scca rally this year...(winning every race and getting manufacturers award) may make it more appealling to the market. Also, i live in canada and maybe 10 people i know know that the evo exists. Its a rare car making it appealing. If you want to sell it you could probably get a good value up here. They are also thinking of modifying the evo for canada, if this is the case it will sell for around $56,000 canadian. (not many will pay that) This may help you if you try to sell.

it will depreciate as quickly if not more quickly than any other car.....

right now my 2003 evo with 6700 miles on it probably cannot bring more than about $24k. That is $6k of depreciation in 7 months........ but...luckily it is not for sale.

Just think for a second, would you buy a used EVO? You know whoever owned it ran the snot out of it. So I'd say short term resale value will be pretty bad. The only bright side would be rarity if this is the last EVO in the US.

So if you hold it for 20 years the resale will be good, but resale value over the next 10 years sucks.

NO it wont, It will lose value just as fast as any other car. My 2 cents. I know a guy who tried to sell his back to the dealer for financial reasons with 600 miles on it and they offered him 21,000. thats gay mitsu in action
