Wink Removing valve cover

Hey all

:h elpme:

Has anybody got/know of a guide for taking off the valve cover for a Evo 6?
I want to repaint it.

I've got a guide for a Evolution X as that was all I could find.

Preferably with pictures :P

Some questions you may be able to answer:
- Do I need to drain all of/some of/none of the oil before taking off the valve cover?
- What is the best way to cover the engine while the valve cover is off (I was thinking gladwrap and duct tape)
- I understand that the engine is very strong, but is there anything I will need to take extra care of?

Any information is greatly appreciated

Wow. Well, it is pretty straight forward. Remove anything in the way (vacuumm hoses, coils, etc), remove the bolts, and off it comes. Can cover the exposed engine with plastic bag of some sort. No, you don't need to drain the fluids. Good luck.

When you go back together be sure not to overtighten the valve cover bolts. Only needs like 10Nm.

Yep - nothing up there that you can hurt unless you really try hard or really mess up. just put the cover on the way way it came off, torque down the bolts to spec, bolt everything else back up and you're good to go. I'd get a new valve cover gasket though

Why would I need a new valve cover?

Almost finished with the valve cover. I've been taking pictures as i've been going and will make 'build thread' about it. They weren't kidding about the 8 hours prep and paint!

I'm thinking gold for the words. What do you all think?

If you're feeling crazy, make a How-to thread so it will help others in your situation. Positive contributions keep this forum alive. Its an easy process but will get your foot in the door to the evo community.

I could do that. It was a very simple task really, most difficult part was sanding.. for hours on end.
