Welp... got the motor out and down to shortblock today. popped open the pan to find...
the thrust bearing twisted 180 and just laying in the pan. crank moves ALOT! destroyed the crank sensor wheel as well. some bad marring on the cylinder walls. pulling the rest of the assembly tomorrow to see if pistons and rods are salvagable. should be okay with a new set of rings.

we'll have the shortblock apart today. we found the thrustbearing and some other metal peices all over the pan and in the pickup tube. so interested to see whats broken.
