are Evo engines more reliable/easy to work on than the STi's boxer?

There really is no comparison between the two..
I have had both, The STI motor is much weaker and will never make the power! The Evo on the other hand is easy as they come to work on and parts are dirt cheap if anything does happen.

I love both cars, but that is the reason why I chose the Evo. It is just cheaper and easier to work on. Its not like the STi is harder to work on because ITS BETTER. That is not the case.
If you will be modding, get an Evo.
If you dont do any work to your car and are not modding, then get an STi.

The STis are awesome, I love their sound and the hood scoop however the Evo is much easier to work on. Everything is sort of laid out for you in an ergonomic way. The STi's flat engine makes even sparkplug changes difficult. Both cars are amazing, I've driven both and the Evo is just a sharper car and a better platform. One mistake they made with the Evo is not upping the engine to 2.5 like in the EJ25, no matter what anyone says the Evo could have used that displacement. The EJ25s with a stroker can go up to 2.8ltrs. The sound is better on the STi too, much more unique than the Evos. What doesn't change though is the fact that the Evo is sharper and has a better AWD system.
