Tcase death whine, is it done?
Hi guys,
A few weeks ago my car started leaking from the tcase, I towed it to the shop and they got it fixed. A week later(today) I heard the death whine . I was wondering if it's done and needs a rebuild/replacement or if there is any other possibility like "low fluid?"
Thanks in advance

The transfer case in the CT9A is a fairly fragile piece of equipment if not maintained properly. You can't run it with low fluid and you can't run it with anything other than the OEM fluid.
If you're starting to hear the, 'death whine' as some people call it chances are it might be done...

Do a fluid flush and top it off. Run it for a while and see how it sounds. If it holds up for another X0,000 miles and doesn't damage anything, then good for you.
I don't have any experience running a noisy transfer case, so I cannot recommend either way. I don't know what other parts of the drivetrain might be damaged by running a failing transfer case. You may want to get more opinions or do some searching on EvoM and see what you find.
Good luck.

I strongly recommend that you do not drive that car at all until you get it to the shop. Do not drive it there take it to a shop that knows about evo's and have it rebuilt. The more you drive on it the more you are just messing up your drive-train. Very delicate piece of equipment driving on it is more than just a deathwine. Your pockets will be doin the deathwine with even more money out of your pocket after it tears up more stuff in there.

My t-case has been whining for about two years now on a DD car and still going. The whine does get louder when the fluid is low though.I suggest rebuild it if you can. I'm just riding mine out till it gives out because I have another one sitting around.

Depending on cost, and I know this is a long shot, but I wonder how much a shop would charge you to crack it open and have a look? If it's done for then you already have it off of the vehicle and can ship to Shep, TRE, or Buschur OR transport to a local repair shop, no?
