I then mocked up the tie down and drilled a hole on each side onto the tray. Might sound complicated but its fairly easy with some fabrication skills.
I did this for 2 reasons, #1 i cannot see myself spending $300 for a battery, and #2 I want to keep 500+CCA especially through NY winters.

I left the factory battery tray in its original spot and rotated the battery to the position i wanted it to sit. I marked the tray that stuck out and cut it down the middle. You will see there will be other spots that need to be trimmed.

nice! good to know these cars are beasts. I bought my evo 8 off the original owner who cared for it very well and it's currently at 160000 with gt3076R, 264 cams and supporting mods on stock block since 2006. Still runs strong.
