Did you buy a USED Evo?

Bought my '03 with 21K on it. I've owned it for over 6 yrs already, & have 115K now...everything has been good. Only thing that went out which was common btw, was the input shaft bearings in the tranny after a few years. Former owner was a Sherrif & took pretty good care of the car - he was a smoker though, & it took about 10 months for the tobacco smell to go away!

got an 05 for a dd. It looked stock and seemed good for the test drive. I was told it was stock. Turns out it was a 2.3l stroker with bad rings, burned oil, and ended up with spun rod bearings. It broke down 1800 miles away while on vacation. Burned oil, previous owner denies it still.

Bought an '03 VIII from a used car dealership on trade for my mazdaspeed3. Couldn't afford the payments on the mazda anymore. Had 73,xxx when I bought her. It's in pretty good shape besides the fact that the transfer case bit the dust. Common problem if the car is not well maintained mechanically, which it was not. Other issues are just small ones. The heater blower motor is toast, and makes horrible noises when its turned on. Also, the starter is dying. All in all though, once I gave her a good tune up and regular maintenance, she's been amazing! Oh the driver's side front strut is slowly dying lol, but it should be good for another year or so. Honestly, just basic stuff thats bound to go out eventually (besides the tc obviously, but I knew I was getting into that in the beginning)

3) had many problems cuz of a sleazeball car salesman.. All in all, I've pretty much rebuilt it and only have a few minor bugs to work out yet.. I now am loving it

1) 2004
2) 30k
3) It had been in a slight front ender and was missing bumper mesh, busted splash guards, but everything mechanically has been fine save for a 5th gear synchro grind which led to a Shep trans. Yeah, that's expensive but the ACT clutch from the prior owner blew at Lime Rock and since the tranny was out, might as well fix it. Had it for 5 years now and have autoXd and tracked the crap out of it. Still mint at 85k miles (with a lot of TLC maintenance).
