I used different brand of parts but for Gsc s2 cams, gsc beehive springs, retainers around $650
complete timing kit install with out water pump $330
Thats about what i paid for labor on getting these replaced except for the belts thats the price of the belts and labor but I'm in CA.

I got a quote from a local evo shop...$350 for the timing kit/water pump install and $600 for the cams, springs/retainers, head gasket and head stud install...install on all parts are being done at the same time.does this sound right? A couple of friends say that this is too much.

That sounds about right. When you take into account the amount of time needed to do the work and the amount that needs to be charged for the shop to stay in business the numbers are not outrageous.

That sounds like a steal to me. I would go with it unless you get a better estimate from another shop.

This. A head gasket job alone will normally run you $500 in labor.

Add a tune on top of that. That seems like a good quote. Where are you in NY? I suggest going to an evo specific performance shop, even for routine work. Car specific shops will be more efficient and be able to identify and address any issues appropriately.

P.S. I recommend STM anyday
