Is a tune needed for adding a MAF adapter and cone air filter for an EVO 8?

I recently picked up a stockish EVO 8 and the previous owner installed a MAF adapter with a cone air filter. Will I need a tune with the air filter or would I be fine? Thanks!

Hey There.

You should be absolutely fine without a tune!

I ran an aem intake and Buschur turbo back for a few weeks before getting a tune. Ran fine. But figured out I was running rich when we finally threw her on the dyno.

Hope this helps

I just installed one yestered with a Perrin Filter and here are my thoughts on that....

It depends on if you're car is currently tuned for your current mods. My car was tuned with a 3" TBE @ 23psi. I did a few pulls prior to install just to make sure my afr's a boost where still good (haven't full throttled in a while trying to save some gas), which they were.

Installed the filter and since then when I go full throttle I am now hitting 25psi. My afr's are still where the need to be after the install. I know the car is breathing much better now but will verify everything once I can toss it on the dyno this spring/summer.

You should be fine as long is it doesn't start going lean under boost, that was my only fear and she is sitting pretty on afr.

Ok quick and dirty.

WILL you be ok not getting a retune - Yes most likely.

Will you get the most out of your car without one - absolutely not.

Conclusion - Always best to get a retune whenever you mod your car's engine performance . Suspension of course not necessary lol just an alignment.

Thanks for the info. Just as long as the engine doesn't get harm in anyway, it's cool with me!

Anything that alters air, fuel, or spark entering or leaving your motor = tune.

Shouldn't have a large effect as these cars run rich to begin with. Also you are not changing the maf sensor it self which will have a massive impact on tune. You are just utilizing the efficiency of your oem sensor. Always keep in mind a tune should be done when a major bolt on or sensor/engine mod is done
