Removing check engine light from the Ecu?? Possible

So I failed my emissions test today due to the fact that my check engine light never comes on.Bulb was checked and replaced. It doesn't cycle when the accessories are turned to the on position. I even tried disconnecting some plugs under the hood when engine was running to make it turn on. Now my question is..., is there some sort of tuning software that allows people to completely disable the CEL?? I've had friends scan my car and it's always clear of codes??? And brainstorming and help would be great, thanks guys

Car is an evo 9 with mild bolt on mods and im the 2nd owner

I'm pretty sure this is not the case... Went for an ecu tune last spring and I'm sure the tuner would have said something... This cel light issue was going on ever since i picked up the car.,.before and after the tune FYI

Could be a bad rom, or something messed up in the tuning process I suppose. Have you tried reflashing the ECU with a stock rom to see if that fixes it? If not, and you want to at least give that a try, then make sure to save a copy of your modified rom before you load up the stock rom though.

Like I said earlier. The car had never been tuned before last spring and the problem existed prior to the tune

Did your tuner modify the existing rom in your ECU when you brought it to him, or upload a new rom based on some previous Evo tune that he had done? If he simply modified your existing rom, can you guarantee that the original owner didn't get it tuned at some point before selling it to you? If not, then I really think you need to start from scratch with a factory fresh, i.e. unmodified, stock Evo 9 rom.

No problem. Happy to help. Hopefully this fixes it for you. But yes, you can load the stock 9 rom yourself. You just need whats commonly referred to as a tactrix cable on EvoM, a laptop, and a copy of the free ECUFlash software, and then you're good to go for changing out the rom. You can usually find the taxtrix cables used on EvoM for cheap, but if you do try to buy a used one, then just make sure you get the read/write version of the cable. IIRC, I believe the 1.3R's will not allow you to write to the ECU. If you want to buy new though, then I got mine from here.......

Price has definitely gone up in the last few years.

If Im understanding you correctly, for passing emissions purposes, that you only care to have the check engine light come on when you start the vehicle. Your saying its not cycling on and that the bulb is, as far as you know, good. Have you checked the wiring to see if the ecu is able to give a signal to light up the check engine light? Can you power up that bulb with some voltage to see if it can actually come on?

I have swaped bulbs out to make sure that it's a good bulb. My next step is to check all the wires.. Anyone have a guage cluster wire diagram???

Find the Pin and check if it's connected. The check engine light pin is actually a ground not power source.

Im guessing some specialist permanently disabled the light from coming on.
