ATF SP III leakage? PLEASE HELP!

So I went to Capitol Mitsubishi. I told them that I need to refill my ATF SP III. And they said that I might have a ATF SP III leakage? Because it's suppose to stay on maximum fluid level unless there's a leakage? They asked me if I sometimes smell burning and or my gears crank from time to time. I sometimes do smell burning when I reach between 4000-6000 rpm and sometimes my gears do crank on 3rd and 4th, specially when I reverse. What should I do? They suggested 60k maintenance since I'm about to hit 50k. The service is about $500. I don't mind because I could cover it. But I just want to know if it's worth it? Or are they just trying to make money off of me when the problem is not as bad. Should I just buy the ATF SP III fluid and just refill it myself? What do you guys think?

I'd assume you're talking about the ACD fluid? Besides the power steering system that's the only other thing that takes Mitsu ATF on our cars. I'd just check to make sure it is indeed leaking before doing anything.

Yeah, that's what most of my friends are saying. Check if there is really a leak. The dealers just assumed that I had a leak since the fluid is not on the same level.

After driving the car the fluid level can drop below the minimum mark but it should go back up.

Oh, alright! I'll just get a free inspection somewhere else before I take it to Mitsubishi. Damn dealers! Always trying to rip you off! Thanks!
