So i was at valvoline last week. I had them just scan my vin# inside my door and use the oil that matched in their computer. To my dismay i just noticed they used 5w20, I was fairly upset considering May in Columbus can be 90f. (or 30f :P) Switched to Amsoil 10w-30 yesterday

 

Shell rotella t6 5w-40 nothing else!

 

Yeah screw that, I dont know why they would put that in there... It SAYS 10W30 Mobil 1 right on the CAP!

Personally, I would run 10w-40.

 

Why they are not recommand 5w30?

 

5W30 was invented in order to provide good gas mileage. Apparently the Mitsubishi engineers assumed the car would be beat on (they were right) and so they chose to go against the grain and recommend a better oil.

Hey, where's our 20W-40 with no viscosity indexer? All you got to do is get the firm to package it. It would be sweet.

 

Why 20w40 ? What are you specifically looking for that the 10w40 15w50 or 20w50 doesn't have

 

None of the above weights come with a recommendation from Mitsubishi. I'm not saying they won't work but possibly Mitsubishi was trying to recommend the best oil viscosity for our engines, remembering that this means the engine Mitsubishi sold us, not some 700 hp monster.

They do recommend 20W-40 for hot weather. Amsoil sells 20W-40 synthetic and it meets the specification for 20W-40 without any viscosity indexer and viscosity indexer is plastic, not oil. The trouble is, Amsoil packages it for natural gas engines. So, instead, use the automotive additive package and get a new label from the printers. Volare!
