Aftermarket HID kit choices...?

Is there any HID kits that are plug and play for an 2003 Evo 8? I called DDM tuning (seemed like a reputable vendor) and they said: "nope, you'll have to hack your harness..." Each of my ballasts have blown once on my headlights and $100 a pop used to replace them got old quick. Any helpful firsthand encounters welcome...Thanks

I've had 4 ddm tuning kits and although i haven't tried it on my evo (since it came with OEM hids) their kits work great in general with no harness mods. Check out Sharphid.com, they guy there is very helpful.

Mine has hid's, but I've had a couple of the cheap ebay kits in the past that worked fine. No ballasts crapping out, completely plug and play, etc. They were Xentec slim kits that are 30somethin bucks on there.... I'm actually about to buy another one for our Tahoe.

They will never look like HIDs. The beam pattern is going to be off and cutoff is not going to be crisp.
I would just go with the Sylvania Silver Star Ultras.
If you decide to buy them anyway, I wouldn't go over 5000k. 4500k will be closest to factory temp and have good light output. The bulbs are 9006. DDM slim ballast 35w digital kits are probably one of the most reliable kits out there.

I have the DDM tuning HID kit on my 9 for Low beams, no issues at all, no hacking of harnesses or anything either. I didn't get their slim ballast I got the regular 55w one, and it fits like a glove under the headlight after making some simple brackets to go in the holes that already existed.

Thats the kit i ordered in 9006? (or whatever the low beam was, I forgot) and 55w and 6k temp. Hindsight being 20/20 I would have gotten 5k as the 6k is really white, but it does have a tint of blue to it.

their morimoto kits have stock like performance and are very high quality. their customer service is also great; very helpful and fast communication. they cost a lot more than the DDM though.

i wouldn't go for anything higher than 5000k though. i used to have 6000k but made the switch to 5000k, and the difference just blew my mind. the output was so much higher and lit the roads so much better than the blueish 6000ks

Those look nice. I wouldn't say they are 'a lot more' than ddm though. Yeah its 150 vs like 75 with all the same features. I was thinking it was going to be 300+. Very cool site though I'll probably try them out if my current kit goes south.

I just bought the Morimoto 3five from the retrofit source. They had a really good reputation from a couple sources I asked and they have a good warranty too. I am excited to install them and post up pics.

How have these worked out for you? Anyone else using The Retrofit Source HIDs?

i have also had ddmtuning slims in my evo 9 gsr since about 2009, work fine as long as you dont rely on the auto shutoff function for the headlights... they dont seem to like them for some reason

My DDM tuning HIDs rarely ever kick on properly...1 bulb will fire and I need to turn the lights off and on several times to get both on. That's why I'm considering the Retrofit Source HIDs.

Retrofit source will also offer you a nice warranty in case one of their ballasts goes bad or anything like that
