Zeitronix 02 gauge issue

So I have two Zeitronix widebands, a ZT1 which I have had since like 2004, still on the original 02 sensor, boost sensor, EGT, and display... works perfectly for a very long time, and I daily drive this car its in.

I have the ZT2 unit in my evo and I've been using it less than 2 years probably, just 02 sensor. I went to data log the other day and my 02 reads 14.7 constantly. My RPM still logs perfectly fine, so the actual unit is working for the most part. Its like my sensor isn't plugged in or something.... normally when sensors go bad they read lean...

So what's going on? any ideas how to trouble shoot this. I'd really rather not pull my entire unit out of my other car.... I contacted Zeitronix through EvoM but got no response yet.

What do you guys think?

If there only was a phone number you could call or email Zeitronix directly. Wouldn't that be great?

Wow that would be super awesome does that actually exist???

A) you weren't open on the weekend when I discovered the problem, nor when I had the time to PM or write this... 10-4 are some pretty awesome work hours

B) Personal E-mail would work great if I could actually check it at work where I am at almost 12hrs a day to discuss

C) EvoM is something I actually can check and communicate with at work and it always seemed Zeitronix has had a good rep for answering concerns or issues here on the forums... which is why I PM'd you first before making a thread.

Did you ever think sometimes people have reasons why they take the methods they use and not everyone is a complete idot?

My ZT3 has done this before as well when using Evoscan. Just sticks at 14.7 even though the physical gauge in the car worked fine.

It was not really their(Zeitronix's) fault but rather the crappy Serial->USB adapter I was using. Here's how I fixed mine.

I've noticed their bundled logging application is able to reset the link or do something to reset the problem. I tried unplugging the USB cable, cycling power to the ZT3, disabling the USB port in Windows and enabling it again, rebooting, nothing. 14.7 solid. Then I try their program and it works fine?!?!? Here's what I did to get mine going....

1. Fire up their logging program, make sure Evoscan is completely closed.
2. Unplug the USB cable for the ZT3, wait 2 seconds, plug it back in.
3. Start logging with their log program. After a few seconds it was showing good readings.
4. Stop their program, leave the device plugged in
5. Open Evoscan. Start logging. Now it works.

For whatever reason, their program helps fix the problem for me. If only I could isolate what it does since I could roll my own "reset" app to quickly fix the problem and bind it to a hotkey or something.

Hope that helps.

Strange, because I recall answering emails during weekend.

Can the guy just ask for help without multiple replies with drama from the vendor?

He didn't call you. He wasn't bad mouthing you. Grow up.

Why are you being such a dik? I have multiple versions and many extras of your products and this is how you are going to treat me

.... and for clarification its why i didn't call on the weekend... and e-mails, how would I know you answer on the weekends? as I assumed its not a business day, your contact hours are limited, and I would not be able to read/respond until a business day which I'd be at work for....that's a pretty logical consideration.

Instead of being such a deuche with sarcastic responces you could of used this oppertunity to actually contribute something useful instead of making Zeitronix look like a total *** hole.

Acidtonic I'll try what you mentioned. although it doesn't seem like a communication issue as it still data logs the RPM...

You probably hit the o2 sensor on a speed bump or the weatherproof connector came unplugged underneath your car. These zeitronixs units are bulletproof and I never had a problem with mine in multiple evos

I was only using the Wideband function and nothing else on the ZT3. You can get RPM from Evoscan.

I too had a constant 14.7 in Evoscan while the LED ZR1 Gauge showed the real AFR. I think the procedure I listed will work for you.....

Let me know how it goes.

There are only about reasons it reads 14.7. Either the connector became unplugged under the car, or you hit something/sensor went bad from age/water/leaded fuel /ripped wires on the bosch sensor from physical damage.

If you take the sensor off the car altogether or don't even have one plugged in, it reads 14.7 so this means the o2 sensor signal is not making it to the zeitronix brain.

In any of these cases, none of them are the fault of the zeitronix wideband.

Really I'm going to have to look more into the actual sensor routed through my dash/fender/wheelwell area. I check the sensor under the car, it can not be hit from speed bump from its placement... and I checked the shealthing from under the car as much as I could check until it gets tucked up into the wheel well.
I also have my connector zip tied together in addiition to the actual plastic clips so it can never come unplugged from the coupler side... both of my setups are like this as I never want to run the risk of something stupid happening.....

I was curious what other problems there could be, and from Acid's explanation that is something I have not considered/knew about previously. I did have issues with it gonig from ZT1 to ZT2 software between my two units... I have to completely uninstall the software and reinstall ZT1 or ZT2 to log between them.

As this is a case in point, I've had more problems with the retarded vendor than the actual units themselves.

Zeitronix was founded by a Polish Engineer and sometimes communication can get lost in translation. He surely wanted to help you asap but you did not send them an email message. You probably thought they wouldn't respond on the weekend, which most companies wouldn't. You posted here instead which makes him feel like its a public product complaint so I can understand where he's coming from with his frustration that you just didn't ask the manufacturer who was able and willing to help you with your questions, even on the weekend.

Marc over at Zeitronix is also very helpful if you give them a call.

I have run two of the ZT2 systems and would never run anything else.

I did send them a PM and waited at least a day before I posted anything asking the public, but nothing I wrote was a complaint, and before I even stated my problem I gave my experience of my extremely reliable ZT1 unit.... 8 years is a long time to be using a wideband on a DD vehicle which still works on the original sensor... I run two units... and have 3 friends running them from my advice.

You could be correct with miscommunication, but nothing I posted was negative...he had an opportunity to add something constructive, but instead decided to make himself and Zeitronix look extremely poor.
