Stock Evo 8 performance in high RPM's

This car has rarely seen redline since I've owned it (about a month) and tonight I did a few pulls and noticed that it was lacking in performance above 5000 rpm. I noticed a drop in power at full boost above 5000 rpm. It felt sort of laggy. Still accelerates, but not like it should.

Could this be the restrictive exhaust. Engine could not push out the exhaust gases fast enough resulting in loss of power. Or could it be that the car isn't building boost properly? I dont think is a misfire, and CEL didn't come on. Feels as though there is a beast struggling to get out of it's cage but can't.

Engine is still on the stock boost and stock tune. It's mechanically perfect with 150 compression on all 4 cylinders. No boost leaks or fluid leaks. No weird sounds or bad spark or anything like that.

Any input is appreciated.

It's the stock tune ( and exhaust would help too ). When I purchased mine almost 2 years ago it would feel lazy after 5500 ( car came with a TBE and stock tune). I got it tuned a month later, boost was raised and now it pulls all the way to 7k. I think my peak power is around 6800, I don't have my graph in front of me but will post for sure when I am done procrastinating at work today.

Ok thank you for confirming my suspicions about the stock tune.

Once you get it tuned you will be surprised how much faster it will feel.
But I would do a boost leak test first to make sure all is well.

cars dont feel as fast after 10x around....either way check for leaks and get tune soon, plus stock turbos stop pulling really hard after 6k pretty much so you'll feel a dive after 6.5k

The stock cams are also lacking in "umph" in the higher RPMs. A set of S2s, LICP, a Hallman Pro, an 02 Dump, exhaust, and obviously a good tune would open up your car a whole lot.

Another thing to concider is the car is AWD and there are lots of moving parts then will start to slow you down.

but i suppose thats what turbos are for. haha
