Question Loss of Power (Boost?) at High RPM

Hey Guys,

Took the Evo 8 out for some fun last night after not driving it for ~3 days. The car feels about normal through about 3.5k RPM and up from there the normal boost powerband is not coming in nearly as strong as usual. As the car accelerates past 3.5K RPM I can hear the turbo spooling but it's hard to tell if it's as much as usual; my initial thoughts are that it is not.

The car is a 2005 Evo 8 SE w/ 60k Miles and I have owned it for about a month now with no other problems. The Engine and drive train are completely stock. I talked to the previous owner who I trust and he said the car has never had this problem in the past. I'm by no means an expert in Evo's or cars in general but did pop the hood to rule out anything extremely obvious; however I am an Engineer so feel free to get technical =P

Would love your guys' initial thoughts and suggestions on what to target/test first and get this Evo healthy again.

Are there any symptoms at all aside from possible power loss?

Get a boost gauge if you don't have one, and as stated above check vacuum lines. You may have just gotten used to the stock feeling of the car and no longer feels fast.

We have all probably experienced it at one point or another, but occasionally I will be convinced the Evo feels slower, then it will go back to feeling normal. I think it's just our perception changing.

Yeah I 2nd that ^^^ if you have a boost gauge you could physically see what your boost level is after it starts to spool and know what its at, if it is acting funny you could get a boost Leak test done and see.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I too thought that maybe I was just getting used to the car, but when my buddy rode in it and said "... it is much slower" I was convinced.

Anyway, I checked the vacuum lines (EGR) as suggested and found a small hole. The picture attached makes it hard to see that it is actually a hole but I assure you it is a hole/large crack.

Question is, would this cause a loss in power like i'm experiencing?

@ RomeIX: Yes this is the only symptom.

I am looking into boost gauges as well.
