Is this totaled?

I have some experience in this one... Personal and recent... We had an 07 STi that hit a patch of ice and then a phone pole. Air bags deployed though, but because it cracked the intercooler and pushed back everything in the engine bay, the damage was estimated at around $17k. They totalled the car... A month later and a new 07 STi, an 18-wheeler rear ends us and while it didn't look totalled, it was again $17k worth of damage and totalled... I wish we would have bought the car back and fixed it, but a salvage title decreases the vehicle's worth and voids any type of warranty. If it is totalled (which looks like it may be close to be honest) and you decide to buy it back and fix it, make sure to go after the other party's insurance for a devalue claim. They will pay you money for having a car that is now less than its worth because of the other driver being an a**. And yes, I live in MD so I know all too well that the drivers here are mildly retarded to say the least... It seems they give out licenses in cereal boxes anymore! Question to ask yourself is will it ever drive the same if it's fixed. If the answer is yes, proceed If the answer is no, talk to the adjuster about totalling it. Good luck!

And btw... Doesn't it **** you off when the idiot that caused the accident gets to drive away in their vehicle??? If they render your vehicle undriveable, you should be able to do the same to their car by any means necessary... and preferribly to the driver as well

Well she's totaled! Just waiting to hear back from the second adjuster who handles total loss claims  And I'm gonna buy the car back, but just to have as a parts car. Rebuilding it is unnecessary seeing as I found this 6 hours after the accident

What is the purpose of buying it back??? Why not just take all of the money from the loss, and put that towards a new Evo? Do you really have the time and resources to strip the totaled one down, list the parts for sale, ship them out, storage space, getting rid of the stripped chasis, etc?
I just think it would be easier to put all of the money towards a new one.... or am I missing something here?

Well Craig, from what I've heard, the buy back should only be around $1500-$2000 so I can definitely make money off of it, as well as have a parts car. Storage isn't an issue either, so there's no reason not to buy it back. Plus, in the grand scheme of an evo build $1500 isn't much. Chef, the 5spd is probably gonna get sent to tmz for a build, and Alpha, I despise the X's xD.
