2wd dyno tuning an Evo??
Anyone ever have their Evo tuned on a 2wd dyno?? The tuner I would like to go to only has a 2 wheel drive dyno. I would normally scoff at the thought but I am not really concerned with the number, just the quality of the tune.

I am in Southwest MI. Tuner is Bob Payton at Speed Lab, said to be one of the top tuners for Autronic in the Country. Mitch at AMS tuned the car prior, he has since left to work at COBB. This leaves me in search of a Certified Autronic tuner. Next closest besides Bob are in Virginia or NY.

Because Autronic has been making ECU's for the Evo since the Evo I. Good enough for the Rally guys, good enough for me! Finding tuners that have enough experience with them to make me feel comfortable is a challenge however. Also I have had this ECU since '04 when the stock ECU support was just not there. Since your in MI you probably remember GodSpeed? yea, I blew up the stock engine on the track with their tune. AMS has tuned it ever since.

godspeed garbage parts you see is not the same GodSpeed shop that is not around anymore. Also that was along time ago and I didn't know any better. I asked the guy if he could tune it and he said he could, so I let him. Live and learn. Also that shop was 20mins away from me. AMS was 4hrs.

I know its possible I would not be the first Evo on Speed Lab's dyno. I am just asking to see if anyone else has any experience with this. Any negatives? The fact that its running on only two wheels does not really make a difference as far as tuning goes, as long as all of the load cells are calibrated correctly. Obviously the numbers are going to be inflated since the power would not be distributed to all four wheels, but as many of us have come to realize its not about the numbers.

Just get it done on the road. Most tuners concentrate on only WOT when the car is on a dyno and then customers wonder why the car bucks and stalls coming up to a red light. Honestly if I were you I would sell the autronic to get a stock ecu and put the extra money towards a tune. Your ems is only as good as the person tuning it and there are many more people that have tons of experience with the stock ecu and aem. A lot of them will even remote tune the car! With virtual dyno these days remote tunes are a great/safe choice.
