ALL EVO'S in the SNOW BELT and MOUNTAINS!!

Well guys and gals..

The EVO has an underbody issue..I had noticed the unfinished underbody in the rear when I bought it, but figured it wasn't a Lexus so oh well..Can't expect an aerodynamic underbody, right?

But it literally has two unfinished areas that act like "scoops" just behind the rear wheels at the base of the quarter panels These areas allow you to collect POUNDS of snow..

Now I'm no stranger to snow or it sticking to your car, but if you look underneath, you see a basically UNFINISHED lower wheel well which encourages the collection of debris...like SNOW..
See pics..

I pulled TWO huge boulders out from each side..They must have weighed like 15 pounds apiece!!

I encourage all who are in the snow now to look underneath because you could be carrying two extra passengers...!

Another..

There is like almost a foot and a half of length and serious area of volume..I removed the huge blocks of snow from these areas on both sides..

I noticed that as well.
As soon as the weather breaks and I can get my car cleaned up, I'm gonna check behind the rear bumper for rust and get a good layer of undercoating.

Shoulda had this done in the fall.

Same here... same thing.. Anytime its above freezing I give it a nice rinse underneath.. I've also been thinking about some mud flaps for winter.. anyone seen some decent cheap ones?

Dude, I'm not so sure the mudflaps will make a difference..

Theres a LOT of space underneath there..

I'm definetely going to hand spray that area hardcore from now on..

I noticed this myself here in MI. I have some massive amounts of snow/ice riding around loose inside my rear fascia, but I can't bust it out no matter how much I kick at it. It hasn't fallen below freezing in weeks here. Yesterday, I even left my propane heater blasting directly at it for a couple hours, but it still didn't melt much.
For those who haven't experienced this, the pics above probably look like no big deal. Trust me, this is unlike any car I've ever owned (all of which have lived in MI winters). It's like there's a huge void that collects the snow. There should be some sort of closeout panel back there.

Hey, I hear ya!! Thats why I felt the need to post about this..
When I got down on my hands and knees and saw the length and sheer volume of snow under there, I was like..

I ended up removing it with a garden hand rake (steel) just get down and strike upwards at the ice block..It will crack in two, or it will allow you to "hook it" and pull the snow block out..

Worked for me..

I swear I have never seen so much snow and ice collected in one spot on a car in my life..Horrendous..

From: Way behind everyone.
The first week I purchased my car, I put on about a 1/4 inch of undercoat throughout the entire underbody, even took off the front, rear bumpers and the side skirts to undercoat. Even undercoated the core support and the bottof of the intercooler. What a mess that was but I got it outta the way before winter hit. Once a week, I put the car on the lift at work and pressure wash the bottom of the car. Seems to be fine, but I plan on owning this car for a long time, and I didnt want to be driving a rot box in 4 years.
